Testing Standards

Free Minor Repairs
Where appropriate, minor repairs such as replacing damaged plugs, fuses or wiring components may be carried out free of charge with the customer's permission. More extensive repairs may incur an additional charge.

Who Needs PAT / Electrical Equipment Safety Testing?
Any business or individual that provides or uses electrical equipment as part of their business has a responsibility to ensure it is safe to use. This includes not only large companies, but also self-employed workers, landlords and various other professionals, such as stonemasons, blacksmiths, artists, market traders, office cleaners, mobile hairdressers, bands, DJs and farmers.
Electrical equipment should be appropriately inspected and maintained to help ensure it remains safe to use. PAT testing and fixed electrical equipment inspection and testing can form part of an appropriate maintenance programme, depending on the equipment, how and where it is used, and the risks involved.

What Equipment Should Be Tested?
Any electrical equipment used in the workplace or provided for public use must undergo PAT testing to ensure it is safe for its intended purpose.
This includes: any 110V, 230V and 400V electrical equipment used in a designated place of work, or equipment provided for use by the public, whether it has a plug on it or connected to a fused spur, should be tested to ensure it is safe to use.
Appliances would include: table lamps, hair dryers, hand dryers, kettles, heat guns, and welding machines as well asd equipment used in various industries, including construction, manufacturing, and retail.
What Does PAT Testing Include?
PAT testing is more than simply plugging an appliance into a test machine.
Depending on the equipment, testing it will include a visual inspection, examination of plugs, leads and connections, and maybe electrical tests and assessment of the condition and suitability of the equipment for the environment in which it is used.
Where appropriate, with agreed permission, minor issues such as damaged plug or wiring issues can be dealt with during the visit.
Following testing, you would receive a detailed appliance and equipment record rather than simply a list of pass or fail results, along with:
- Pass or fail identification labels
- An electronic certificate of testing
- A detailed appliance/equipment register
- Individual test results
- Details of any failures or observations
This gives you a clear record of what has been inspected and tested.
